None of the weddings, probably, can do without traditions. For example, in our country, newlyweds like to throw sweets to children before going to the registry office, or “block” the road after the wedding and treat everyone passing by tasty so that they are happy for their new family, the bride is always instructed to cut the loaf as a sign that it is becoming the mistress of the future family nest, namely, the duties of the mother-in-law is to remove the veil from the bride after the wedding, because the bride after the wedding belongs to her husband, which means she becomes a member of the husband’s family. We are so used to it that we don’t even think that symbolism is hidden in every element of the wedding, tradition is behind every action.
Our wedding traditions are quite pleasant and beautiful, but far from all countries of the world it is. Probably, to the inhabitants of other countries, our wedding customs seem to be as wild and exotic as their customs are to us. However, all traditions are quite interesting and each has an explanation. Consider some unusual, strange wedding traditions that exist among other nations.
In Scotland…
In the Scottish province, today, the tradition is widespread to pour mud on the bride. In the literal sense! True, it is rather a pre-wedding tradition. Fans of rituals prepare a special “mud”, mixing sauces, noodles, carrots, sour milk, butter and other products, water the girl preparing to become a wife with this mixture and drive her in this form throughout the village or town, and the more people see the bride in the mud , all the better! Rumor has it that this custom was invented specifically so that after such a test all the troubles of family life seemed just trifles to the bride.
In Ireland…
Ireland is also rich in wedding traditions. As you know, this country is inhabited by mythical creatures, in particular, fairies, who love everything beautiful. And at the wedding, the most beautiful thing is the bride, therefore, in order not to be kidnapped, during dancing she should not take her legs off the floor.
And in this country, not gold and silver rings and bracelets are quoted at the wedding, but rings and bracelets made of human hair: many still believe that such jewelry will help connect the newlyweds for the rest of their lives, make the family strong and happy ...
In India…
However, Irish traditions are far from the strangest. In India, for example, to discourage evil spirits, a girl can be married to a dog if she was born with a baby tooth in the upper gum. There is a possibility of becoming a spouse of a tree (banana or giant ficus - to choose from). This threatens the girl if she was born on the day when Mars was in 1, 4, 7, 8, or 12 houses. If she marries a man - they say that her husband will certainly die soon. And a man becomes a spouse of a tree if his younger brother was about to marry, and the young man himself has not yet found his soul mate: the laws of seniority in India are strictly enforced ... However, this tradition is not as scary as it seems: after marriage with a tree, it is ritually burned, but then the “widow” or “widower” can play a wedding with a man.
In Mauritania ...
But in Mauritania and some other African countries, brides are fattened before the wedding: just our beloved harmony there is considered ugliness. Therefore, the bride a few months before the wedding comes to a special cramped hut and sits there almost without movement until the very day of the wedding. The main duty of the girl is to eat as much high-calorie food and gain as much weight as possible.
In China…
However, brides in this period are unlikely to consider themselves miserable. But in China, the Tutzy people live, and one of its wedding customs is associated with tears. A whole month on the eve of the wedding after dark, the bride must certainly cry, after ten days their mothers “wash their tears”, and in the evening on the eve of the wedding their brides and their friends cry ... There is a belief that if the bride respects this tradition, family life will bring the newlyweds only joy and happiness!
On Bali…
But how to curb passions, they know in Bali. So that future spouses avoid anger, greed, envy, gluttony and lust, each file is filed with six teeth: fangs and incisors. The islanders believe that the fangs of people are no different from the fangs of animals, therefore, to curb the animal instincts, the teeth are filed. For girls, this rite is also a symbol of farewell to the father’s house and entry into a new family.
In Germany…
Even a few pragmatic Germans have a wedding tradition designed to drive away evil spirits from a new family. To do this, everyone present at the wedding makes a noise ... with the help of beating plates. And not only plates, but everything that comes to hand.
In South Korea ...
Although the “victim” of the wedding ceremony can be not only the dishes, but the groom himself. In South Korea, the bridegroom is not released after the wedding just like that ... Before sending the bride and groom to rest, the bridegroom's relatives take off his shoes and socks, tie his legs with a rope ... and each guest hits the poor man with his cane or cod. This is a kind of test of the groom's strength ...
Of course, today not everyone does not always follow wedding traditions, and hardly anyone gives them a mystical meaning. However, in any case, most wedding ceremonies are a great occasion to have fun from the heart.!
